Pokhara, Chitwan and Lumbini Plan Joint Tourism Campaign to Attract More Visitors

Three of Nepal’s important travel destinations are strengthening their cooperation to encourage more visitors to explore Pokhara, Bharatpur and Lumbini as part of a single travel experience.

The initiative, known as the Silver Triangle, brings together Pokhara Metropolitan City, Bharatpur Metropolitan City and Lumbini Cultural Municipality. The partnership aims to promote tourism, share good practices and develop opportunities for cooperation among the three destinations.

Bharatpur Metropolitan City recently hosted a discussion with local representatives, tourism entrepreneurs, business leaders and other stakeholders to gather ideas and plan the next steps for the initiative.

The discussions highlighted the different experiences each destination can offer. Pokhara is known for its mountain views and adventure activities, Bharatpur provides access to Chitwan’s natural attractions and wildlife, while Lumbini attracts visitors interested in Buddhism, spirituality and history.

Participants emphasized that connecting these destinations could encourage tourists to spend more time in Nepal and explore more than one region during their visit. Better transport connections, improved tourism services, cleanliness and environmental protection were also identified as important priorities.

Pokhara Mayor Dhanraj Acharya highlighted the need for practical cooperation between local governments and businesses. The initiative is intended to create economic opportunities across all three destinations by making it easier for visitors to include them in one itinerary.

Tourism representatives also stressed the importance of private-sector investment, digital marketing and international promotion. They noted that Nepal needs to communicate that its destinations are welcoming and ready to receive visitors, particularly as natural disasters have affected tourism in recent times.

Joint Travel Packages and Tourism Events Planned

Under an agreement signed by the three local governments in June 2026, the partners plan to develop combined tourism packages, organize an annual Silver Triangle Travel Mart on a rotating basis, and arrange meetings between businesses and government representatives.

The agreement also includes producing shared brochures, videos and other digital promotional materials. Digital information boards will help visitors discover attractions in the other two destinations, while tourism businesses, hotels, travel agencies and local communities will be encouraged to work together.

A digital information board at Bharatpur Metropolitan City’s office premises was inaugurated as part of the ongoing effort.

If implemented effectively, the Silver Triangle initiative could give travelers a more varied Nepal itinerary, combining mountain scenery, nature, wildlife and cultural heritage in one trip. For tourism businesses, closer cooperation could create new opportunities to reach domestic and international visitors.

The success of the initiative will depend on turning these plans into practical travel services, better connectivity and coordinated promotion across the three destinations.
